It’s interesting to note that the Republicans by and large do not consider this to be a part of big government. At the same time it’s safe to say that the Democrats also have played a major role in the creation of this massive national security-industrial complex including Obama who is continuing the national security policies of the Bush White House — albeit under different names in many instances.

I highly recommend watching and reading many of the page at Top Secret America | FRONTLINE | PBS. Many of the feature of the new national security complex have been extended outside of the original intent of terrorism onto other aspects of civilian activity. And we need to remember this. Once a government agency or code is created it’s nearly impossible to reverse. This will become part of the new America for a very long time.

Welcome to fortress America.

*Note. This is not a call for doing nothing. Moderation should rule however. And in these instances we have gone overboard with much of this.

re: #4 Gus 802

I’ve had Top Secret America on my calendar since you mentioned a week or two ago that it would be on PBS, I just need to find time to watch it. I’ve also had the related micro-site over at WaPo bookmarked for quite a while now, though I haven’t been able to go through it nearly as thoroughly as I’d like to.

You’re right—these things are very difficult, if not impossible, to reverse. We seriously need to stop entrusting corporations (and politicians who are beholden to them) with our welfare lest we sell all our freedoms for a (false) sense of security. It’s a treacherous, slippery slope.

Thanks, ice. It really is disturbing on many levels.
